Gamer Gate and Gamer Gate 2. What Happened? A Reasonable View

If you're wondering what's GamerGate, how it happened, why is there now a sequel to it with GamerGate 2, what has actually happened, and know the truth, then this is what I'm writing here. This won't be a detailed one, which you'll most likely find in many other posts or videos, but rather a straight-to-the-point post and one that'll provide a reasonable view of it.

If you're wondering what's GamerGate, how it happened, why is there now a sequel to it with GamerGate 2, what has actually happened and know the truth, then this is what I'm writing here. This won't be a detailed one, which you'll most likely find in many other posts or videos, but rather a straight-to-the-point post and one that'll provide a reasonable view of it.

GamerGate

GamerGate started to expose corruption in games journalism, where the trigger for it was when a game developer allegedly slept with a games journalist, and that same journalist provided a review for that game developer's game without mentioning that conflict of interest. Coverage without recuesal.

That's about it. Gamers just wanted to expose the corruption for all to see.

Because of this exposure, the corrupt games journalists in the industry started to divert the focus from that objective towards a false objective of harassing individuals because of their sex, in an attempt to have the majority of people view it as an evil movement when in it wasn't.

Were there evil people from those who were anti-GG and pro-GG that harassed the other side? Yes, of course, but that doesn't paint either side as such. That's just noise. Remove the noise and you'll get what I already mentioned: Gamers exposing corruption in the games industry, and the corrupt side trying to protect itself.

GamerGate 2

Ten years later, GamerGate 2 is happening apparently, so what's the trigger this time? Gamers are presenting games that had Woke consultation companies provide their consultation for it, in the form of a Curator group on Steam, and said companies started harassing them and trying to get that group censored, and the creator of the group banned.

You might be wondering why that group and list were created, simplifying the reason to: Gamers don't like anti-consumer Woke elements in their games, and as such the group and list were created to help gamers be informed of said games that included them and help them with their purchasing decision.

It's similar to when I created a tool called Woke Discount Calculator, which was created for fun, but also to be a useful tool for said individuals to help them figure out at which price point should they buy the game if it had Woke elements in it.

Being Reasonable

You might be thinking that this is all silly and has gone way out of proportion, and you're might right. If that's what you're thinking then here's an even calmer and reasonable take on it, where we'll embody such a person and provide a thought for each of these events:

GG: “Hm? This site isn't providing authentic game reviews? Sucks. Oh well, I'll just read from this site instead or watch this YouTube."

“People are being harassed? That sucks. I hope the harassers get stopped.” GG2: “I've been noticing that a lot of games lately are kind of bad and have weird stories and annoying characters, and some remakes change stuff that was supposed to be there. I just want to play good games without these weird things man. What? There's a curator group that helps detect these weird things? That's useful! I'll follow it.”

“People are being harassed? That sucks. I hope the harassers get stopped.”

What do people in GG and GG2 want? Reviewers to just review normally and authentically, and games to not have weird ideological injections and not be censored.

Also, keep in mind that “GamerGate” and “GamerGate 2" are just buzzwords at this point. From the beginning til now and in the future that'll come, the desired gist of all of this headache is: Gamers just want to play games (which is the embodiment of a fictional character called Vivian James).

So that's the truth of what has happened, and what's happening now, without all the noise, and the most reasonable take on them.
