I started giving my kids small amounts of bitcoin using Cashu for their birthday and wrote about it in this blog post. BitPopArt started drawing a bunch of cartoon characters based on the blog post. He came up with the idea of cashu gift cards, but the technology was too cumbersome to realistically use.
Since then, Coinos has made it easier to enocde this cashu on a QR code. This means it is no longer necessary to teach people how to set up a wallet first. As soon as they scan the QR code, they are automatically given a wallet with a username and password. As long as they write this password down or change it, they can use this wallet.
You can use this to:
- Give bitcoin to your kids.
- Easily onboard a merchant onto the bitcoin ligntning network.
- A geocache for treasures.to
- Paste it on the back of a business card.
You are limited only to your imagination. Some of my meetup friends informed me it is not a good idea to just give sats away willy-nilly to any no-coiner you see. 99 times out of 100 they they will lose it. Once in an orange moon, you will meet someone who is generally interested in bitcoin and how it work. It's rare, but it does happen. Give these to those people.
