You have a fresh new computer and you want to access your nostr account. Sure, you can simply paste your private key into the browser but that comes with risks and hazards. Given you most likely have a bitcoin wallet attached, you need to treat your nostr private key with the respect it deserves. Using Alby is the easist way. Here's how;
Step 1 -
I'm using Microsoft Edge in this example, however any chromium based browser, or Firefox will work with these instructions. We'll be downloading the Alby web extension onto the browser.

Step 2 -
Go to this address in order to install the chromium web extension. For Firefox, go here.

Step 3 -
Click on the jigsaw piece at the top right of the screen and click the 'eye' button so that Alby appears on the address bar. In Chrome, the 'eye' is a 'pin'. Once it appears near the address bar, click on Alby.

Step 4 -
Log into your Alby account or if you don't have one, create one.

Step 5 -
Once logged in, click on your LN address in the top right hand corner and 'Account Settings'

Step 6 -
Scroll down and you'll find a field where you can paste your nostr private key. Please note, this screen is not communicating via the internet. This is an interface with your computer only, as shown by the address in the address bar.

Step 7 -
Go to your favourite nostr site.

Step 8 -
Homerun!
